OLDENDORFF CARRIERS normally operates around 400 vessels at any one time. The biggest segment is our Supramax/Handysize fleet with roughly 220 units. The number of Panamax bulkers under operation fluctuates around 90 and we have been active in this field ever since this size was established in the 1960s.
To complete our portfolio, Capesize trades have been built up since 2005. Our special unloaders are operated in a pool with CSL International, whereas our three reloaders plus barges and tugs are engaged in transshipment operations in Turkey, Guyana and UAE.
Having sold our container and MPP vessels as well as VLCCs, we today concentrate
on drybulk only.
Development of our Fleet.
We maintain a sizeable fleet of owned vessels, although buying and selling vessels is changing it constantly. In the last 25 years alone, the company has entered into more than 250 sale and purchase transactions (acquisitions, sales, leasing deals).
We also take ships on "index-based" period time charter or bareboat charter. For example, at the beginning of 2008, we had more than 20 ships of all sizes (Handysize, Supramax, Panamax and Capesize) on index-based charters, where the rate is determined by the average TC routes of the corresponding Baltic indices at the end of 2011, we had more than 26 ships of all sizes.
