Unloaders explained

Click to find out how an unloader discharges its cargo.

A hybrid self-unloader operates as follows

  • The cargo is discharged from the holds into the hoppers on deck by the vessel's own cranes and grabs.
  • The hoppers feed the deck belt system, which transfers the cargo onto the boom of up to 80 metres in length, which is slewed to either port or starboard.
  • Then the cargo is off-loaded to the shore, either directly onto a stockpile or into a receiving facility.
  • Hybrid self-unloaders are also highly suitable for carrying out offshore transloading operations.
